STIRPAT is an acronym that refers to a statistical model for assessing environmental impacts at virtually any scale and to a research program in structural human ecology (SHE). Any human ecosystem comprises four key, interacting components: population, environment, social organization, and technology. The STIRPAT model can be used to explore the interactions between these components, in the search for understanding about the creation of and solution to environmental problems.
